Understanding Prorated Billing on VPS Plan Changes

What Is Prorated Billing?

When you upgrade or downgrade your Breeze mid-billing cycle, prorated billing ensures you only pay for what you actually use. Instead of being charged the full price of both plans, the system calculates a fair adjustment based on the remaining days in your cycle.

How Upgrades Work

When you upgrade your Breeze to a higher plan:

  • You receive a credit for the unused portion of your current plan
  • You are charged for the remaining days at the new plan's rate
  • The difference appears as a prorated charge on your next invoice

Example

Suppose you are on a $20/month plan and upgrade to a $40/month plan on day 15 of a 30-day cycle:

  • Credit for unused current plan: $20 x (15/30) = $10
  • Charge for new plan remainder: $40 x (15/30) = $20
  • Net charge: $20 - $10 = $10

How Downgrades Work

Downgrading works similarly but in reverse. The credit from your higher plan offsets the cost of the lower plan. Any remaining credit is applied to future invoices.

When Proration Applies

  • Plan upgrades and downgrades during an active billing cycle
  • Adding or removing resources like extra storage or bandwidth

Viewing Proration Details

Log in to your portal and navigate to Billing > Invoices. Prorated line items are clearly labeled with the date range they cover, so you can verify the calculations.

Tips

  • Plan changes take effect immediately -- your Breeze resources update right away
  • Your regular billing date stays the same after a plan change
  • Contact support if a prorated charge looks incorrect
