How to Transfer a Domain to a New Registrar

By Admin · Feb 25, 2026 · Updated Apr 23, 2026 · 195 views · 1 min read

Before You Start

  • Domain must be at least 60 days old
  • Domain must not be in "locked" or "clientTransferProhibited" status
  • You must have access to the domain admin email

Step-by-Step Transfer

  1. Unlock the domain at your current registrar
  2. Get the EPP/Auth code (transfer authorization code) from your current registrar
  3. Initiate the transfer at the new registrar using the auth code
  4. Confirm the transfer via email (sent to domain admin email)
  5. Wait for completion — typically 5-7 days

DNS During Transfer

Your DNS records continue working during the transfer. However, it is good practice to:

  1. Note your current DNS settings before starting
  2. Ensure nameservers will continue to resolve after transfer
  3. Lower TTL values before the transfer in case you need to make changes
